2. Source Comment. A prominent Cuban émigré in Miami who is a friend of Diaz, and with whom Diaz discussed his plan, said that although Diaz and Ameijeiras were friends, he was not aware of Ameijeiras' involvement in Diaz' assassination plan.
Field Comment. The arrest of Ameijeiras, vice-minister of the Cuban Armed Forces, was reported in the press on 17 March. TDCSDB-315/00765-66, from the same source, reported that on 4 March Diaz said that he and members of his group planned to leave Miami for Cuba momentarily. At that time Diaz' associates in Miami doubted that he would attempt to carry out the assassination plan. There has been no previous indication that Ameijeiras, or anyone in Cuba, was involved in Diaz' plan.
