The following report was received by phone, July 8, 1968 from:

Saturday evening, July 6th, 1968 at 8:53 EDT. I saw in the general direction of the Pole Star what appeared as a bright star. With the aid of binoculars it appeared to be 100 miles out. After observing it 4 to 5 minutes with the binoculars it exploded or separated. A smaller section flew off the main one in a Northern direction some distance from the larger one. An example of the distance—1000 x diameter. While they separated at a terrific speed there appeared to be smoke or haze between them and then inside of one minute both faded out. Observed the time — 8:57 PM.
The object appeared like a very brilliant white star—equal in magnitude to the evening star. The observed object was stationary.
The object was observed by Mr. Champagne with the binoculars and by his wife with the naked eye.
